2021 Smart & Sustainable Cities Virtual Market Entry Programme – Singapore (CLOSED)

OVERVIEW OF SMART & SUSTAINABLE CITIES LANDSCAPE IN SINGAPORE AND SOUTHEAST ASIA

Singapore is a gateway to Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific. Nordic companies can reach the region by partnering with companies operating in Singapore that already have access to the wider region. The nation is actively seeking innovative technology-enabled solutions to transform its urban landscape, environment and living needs for its citizens. Hence, Singapore launched its Smart Nation initiative in 2014, prioritising technological transformation to address national challenges in key areas such as Health, Transport, Urban solutions, Finance, and Education.

To achieve Singapore’s long-term net-zero emissions aspiration as soon as viable, and to build up our climate, resource and economic resilience, it unveiled the SG Green Plan 2030, to make Singapore a greener, sustainable and more liveable home, and commitments under the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and Paris Agreement. To further enhance better living for the growing and ageing population, the nation is developing smart districts:

  • Punggol Digital District 2023: Adopting Open Digital Platform (ODP) technology to foster an ecosystem that attracts and enables innovation

  • Tengah, The Forest Town: Smart and sustainable eco-town and car-free town, promising 42,000 homes designed to improve quality of life

Singapore was awarded as the world’s leading Smart City Governments 2020/21 for promising new ways of engaging citizens, increasing quality of life, and development of its smart city initiatives. The lion city also ranked 2nd as one of the world’s most innovative economies in the Bloomberg Innovation Index 2021 and ease of doing business.

In 2021, Nordic Innovation House Singapore (NIH-SG) continues to build more opportunities for Nordic technology startups, scale-ups and growth companies operating under the Smart Cities theme. Our Smart & Sustainable Cities Programme will provide Nordic companies with opportunities to expand their foothold in Singapore and Southeast Asia. NIH-SG shares the mission to bridge Healthtech and Medtech related delegations with Business Sweden, Innovation Norway, Embassy of Finland, Business Iceland and the Embassy of Denmark in Singapore.
